Axiom PD have been producing some high-speed machined Acetal parts for a client in the medical industry. The brief was for high tolerance, precision engineered parts made from Acetal, a thermoplastic material which offers low friction, high stiffness and excellent dimension stability.

Carbon manufacturing tooling

The Axiom in-house design team have designed a bespoke tool for an automotive customer to assist with the application of paint lines onto vehicles.

The design brief was for a light weight, flexible strong component. Once designed the tooling was manufactured in-house using 5 axis CNC machines. The image shows the carbon fibre parts that were produced from the Axiom designed and manufactured tools.

Busy month for team at Axiom Product Development

Its been a busy few weeks for the highly skilled team at Axiom Product Development with high quality engineering solutions going out the door daily.

The company has had a great 12 months beating their budget substantially, investing heavily in new machines and technologies and the company is on target for some busy months ahead.

3 large projects went out recently including 6 assembly fixtures, 2 vacuum forming tools, 2 advanced pressure forming tools and 4 trim fixtures!

Axiom Product Development take delivery of two brand new DMG 5 Axis Machines

Axiom Product Development, the Chichester based machining, tooling and plastic injection moulding business has taken delivery of two new DMG DMU 5 Axis machines to further increase the capacity of this multi-skilled engineering business.

The DMU 50 3rd Generation machines, with swivelling rotary tables, allow for full 5 axis simultaneous machining and can machine intricate components from solid materials enabling the company to produce complex jigs, fixtures and manufacturing aids for a wide breadth of customers from automotive, defence, aerospace, Formula 1, marine and general manufacturing.

The company has invested in the new machines in response to both the high demand from its customers for quality produced and engineered parts and the increasing number of business coming from new customers in new engineering sectors.

The team at Axiom has many decades of design and engineering experience and a proven history of assisting its customers to successfully develop and manufacture their products.  The company operates in markets that require fast turnaround and these new DMG machines offer the latest technology to ensure a fast engineering response time of the highest quality.

Axiom deliver engineering design solution for top brand mountain bike

It’s well known that water and electrics don’t mix which is why water, dirt and stones can cause undue problems to the electrics now commonly seen on the latest generation of mountain bikes. This problem led to the full range of skills and experience at Axiom Product Development being called upon to design and manufacture a workable solution for MTB accessories company SicoMTB Products for a particular bike model.

Traditional mudguards do not work with the changing geometry of the rear suspension, this means that they can only be mounted in one area so reducing the ability to deflect water, grit and stones! SicoMTB Products approached Axiom Product Development to take a fresh look at the problem and challenges and come up with a clever new mudguard design.

The highly experienced design, engineering and machining team at Axiom went back to basics to design a dual function mud guard which could both act as a traditional mudguard and in addition divert the water and muck specifically away from the electric motor housing. Throw in a few more complications like lack of space and a highly complex solution was required.

The in-house design team at Chichester based Axiom Product Development initially 3D scanned the bike to precisely replicate the geometry of the bike and enable them to simulate the suspension travel when riding on rough terrain. The design team then designed a shape to fit the space, with some clever design features which addressed the various problems. A 3d printed prototype was produced for thorough testing and final design adjustments before the highly skilled machining team at Axiom were brought in. They CNC machined the initial prototype tooling using epoxy blocks on one of the in-house 3 axis machines. The team then worked with a vacuum forming specialist to produce the final, 2 piece, innovative mudguard solution, the DualGuard.

Our highly experienced CAD design team are able to come up with design solutions that our machining specialists are quickly able to turn into reality and fine tune with the design engineers to produce quick and technically complex solutions. New Finishing Engineer appointed at Axiom Product Development as company expands into high-tech plastic injection moulding.

Bradley Baldwin has joined the growing team at Axiom Product Development Ltd as the company expands its capabilities into high-tech plastic injection moulding. Taking on the new position of Finishing Engineer, Bradley will be using his skills in the polishing and finishing of machined components including aluminium, steel, plastics and composite moulds. Bradley has particular expertise in the automotive sector. Part of Bradley’s new role includes  the inspection of finished parts to customer drawings and models.

Axiom Product Development recently invested in two new plastic injection moulding machines in order to broaden the specialist engineering services it can offer its customers. New recruit Bradley will be responsible for hand polishing and finishing of the new high-tech plastic injection moulds with surface finishes from commercial polish to full gloss polish. He will also be working on the wide variety of machined metal tools and components that the company is well known for.

Axiom’s two new Negri Bossi plastic injection moulding machines with capacity up to 180 tonnes are being used to prove out tools that are designed by the in-house CAD design team. The machines enable the business to manufacture complex plastic components for automotive and general industrial customers.
